The complex is built across two hills — the larger known locally as Periya Malai, home to the Yoga Narasimha shrine reached via a substantial climb, with a companion Ranganatha mandir situated at ground level for those unable to make the ascent.

This is one of several Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu's meditative Yoga Narasimha form, following the Hiranyakashipu legend common to Narasimha worship, here set within a physically demanding pilgrimage requiring devotees to climb to reach the primary hilltop shrine.
