The final Divya Desam in this project's southern Tamil Nadu batch, a rock-cut cave mandir in Pudukkottai district dated to the 9th century Pandya period, sharing its hilltop with a later Thirumayam Fort.
Built during the 9th century under the Pandya dynasty, this mandir is a rock-cut cave shrine — a distinctive construction method found at relatively few Divya Desams — with a fort added on the same hill considerably later, giving the site a layered architectural history across many centuries.
A cave mandir carved directly into the rock of a hill, an architectural approach shared with only a small number of other Divya Desams, topped by the later Thirumayam Fort which shares the same elevated site.
