Sai Baba lived in Shirdi from the late 19th century until his mahasamadhi (voluntary departure from the body) in 1918. The present mandir complex developed around his samadhi shrine, with the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust now managing a substantially expanded complex including numerous subsidiary shrines built over the decades since.
The mandir complex spans roughly 200 square meters at its core, with the main Samadhi Mandir built in a style incorporating Dravidian elements, surrounded by additional mandirs to Ganesh, Mahalakshmi, Shani, Hanuman and Narasimha within the same grounds.
Sai Baba's own origins remain genuinely uncertain by design — he never disclosed his birthplace or original family, teaching instead through parables and lived example. His central teaching, "Sabka Malik Ek" (one God governs all), deliberately transcended the Hindu-Muslim divide of his era, and this message remains central to how the mandir is understood today.
